SYNOPSIS
A brief synopsis...
Godden Marine is a Houston-based maritime investment and acquisition firm focused on vessels, shipyards, marine support services, and terminal and tank storage assets across both the U.S. domestic and international markets. The firm's investment approach is built around a straightforward thesis: maritime assets are essential, long-lived infrastructure that underpins global trade and energy supply chains, and they reward patient, operationally sophisticated capital over the long term.

Within the U.S. market, Godden Marine is particularly focused on the Jones Act sector, where cabotage protections, fleet aging, and constrained access to capital create a persistent pipeline of acquisition and value creation opportunities. The firm's domestic strategy is further reinforced by the federal Maritime Action Plan, which has elevated policy support around fleet modernization, infrastructure investment, and domestic maritime capacity — providing additional tailwinds for well-positioned investors.

Internationally, Godden Marine targets situations where operational complexity, distress, or market dislocation create attractive entry points into quality assets. Across both domestic and international mandates, the firm pursues control or significant influence positions, with a focus on businesses and assets where active ownership drives returns.

Godden Marine was founded by Matt Godden, a maritime executive with two decades of experience spanning operations, turnarounds, and principal investing. Most recently, Matt served as President and CEO of Centerline Logistics Corporation, where he led a comprehensive operational and financial turnaround of one of the West Coast's largest marine petroleum transportation companies under institutional private equity ownership, culminating in a successful sale to a strategic maritime acquirer in 2025. Prior to Centerline, he founded Focus Technology, a middle-market advisory firm involved in transactions with companies including DHL, United Rentals, and Maersk. Matt currently serves on multiple corporate boards for both public and private companies, and invests his own capital alongside co-investors in every Godden Marine transaction.
